13th TRNC Barrier-Free Informatics Days Mark a Milestone for Inclusive Digital Transformation


The 13th Turkish Republic of North Cyprus Barrier-Free Informatics Days, organized under the leadership of Near East University and Manisa Celal Bayar University, brought together representatives from public institutions, academia, the private sector, and civil society to promote accessible and inclusive digital services. Held at the Presidential Complex Conference Hall under the auspices of the Presidency, the two-day symposium once again stood out as a longstanding cornerstone initiative advancing barrier-free informatics in the country.

The event was organized in collaboration with Near East University, the TRNC Presidency Disabled Committee, the TRNC Barrier-Free Informatics Platform, the Turkey Barrier-Free Informatics Platform, and Manisa Celal Bayar University. Opening speeches were delivered by Nilden Bektaş Erhürman, the first lady of the TRNC; Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, Rector of Near East University; Prof. Dr. Rana Kibar, Rector of Manisa Celal Bayar University; Dr. Mustafa Özhan Kalaç, Coordinator of the Turkey Barrier-Free Informatics Platform and faculty member at Manisa Celal Bayar University; and Prof. Dr. Zehra Altınay, Head of the Social Research and Development Center at Near East University and Coordinator of the TRNC Barrier-Free Informatics Platform. Near East University’s AI-based academic, Ai. Prof. DUX, also addressed participants.

Across six sessions, experts discussed inclusive library services, accessible communication centers, private sector accessibility initiatives, web accessibility and usability, and the role of technology in special education. Service awards were presented to contributors supporting accessibility and collaboration efforts.
