1st Disability Rights Workshop Action Plan: A Step Toward Inclusion and Accessibility


The “1st Disability Rights Workshop Action Plan Launch,” held under the auspices of the Presidency and led by First Lady Sibel Tatar, marked a significant milestone in advocating for the rights of individuals with disabilities in Northern Cyprus.

The event was attended by President Ersin Tatar and First Lady Sibel Tatar, Turkey’s Ambassador to Nicosia, Yasin Ekrem Serim, Minister of Health Hakan Dinçyürek, Minister of Labor and Social Security Sadık Gardiyanoğlu, stakeholders who contributed to the launch, and various invited guests.

During the event, Prof. Dr. Zehra Altınay, Chairperson of the Near East University Social Research and Development Center, presented the National Action Plan Report of the Disability Rights Workshop, highlighting the center’s significant contributions as a key stakeholder.

The event emphasized collaboration among key stakeholders, including the Near East University Social Research and Development Center, which played a vital role in shaping the action plan.

The workshop aimed to address critical issues such as discrimination, accessibility, and sustainability for disabled individuals. It provided a platform to bring stakeholders together, including government officials, academics, and media representatives, to discuss actionable solutions. First Lady Sibel Tatar highlighted the societal importance of tackling “othering,” especially in schools, and stressed the need for legislative reforms and enhanced support systems.

The event underscored the importance of continuous efforts to create an inclusive society where the needs of disabled individuals are prioritized year-round. By focusing on both awareness and practical measures, the launch served as a call to action for institutions, policymakers, and the broader community to work collectively toward achieving equality and accessibility.
