The 4th Turkish-Japanese Sleep Forum, titled “Brain Time: Mechanism and Functions from Microdian to Circadian,” was hosted by Near East University from April 29 to May 1, 2024. Organized by the Brain and Consciousness Research Center, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Medicine’s Biophysics Department, the event brought together leading researchers in sleep, brain function, and circadian rhythms.
The forum featured three panels. Prof. Ken-ichi Honma from Hokkaido University, also the President of the Asian Forum on Chronobiology, discussed seasonal influences on human sleep-wake cycles. Prof. Sato Honma explored human circadian systems, while Assoc. Prof. Yujiro Yamanaka presented findings on non-light interactions with circadian rhythms.
Other speakers included Prof. Murat Özgören on brain responsiveness, Dr. Özlem Önder on neurological time processes, and Assoc. Prof. Erkan Günay on time perception in sports. The event concluded with critical insights from Assoc. Prof. Zeynep Zeren Uçar on heart rate variability and Doç. Dr. Burçin Şanlıdağ on the interplay between autism, epilepsy, and sleep.
Highlighting international collaboration, Near East University signed a partnership with the Asian Forum on Chronobiology to advance research in sleep and biological rhythms.
