“Melodies of Our Island” Choir Concert Celebrated Heritage

The Atatürk Faculty of Education at Near East University, in collaboration with the Cyprus Vakıflar Administration, hosted a choir concert titled “Melodies of Our Island”. The event took place in the enchanting atmosphere of Bedesten, featuring a beautiful selection of Cypriot songs.

 

The choir was conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Emine Kıvanç Öztuğ, Head of the Department of Music Education at the Atatürk Faculty of Education. Accompanying her in the performance were Instructor İmge Dinçer on piano, Expert Gözdem İlkay on guitar, Asst. Prof. Dr. Erkan Sülün on violin, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ertem Nalbantoğlu on clarinet, and Expert Mehmet Sakarya on flute.

 

 

The concert featured a diverse repertoire, including Vaporum Üç Borulu, the cherished piece Al Yemeni Mor Yemeni by renowned composer Kamran Aziz, Kebabçıların Şişi, Leymosun Türküsü, and several songs from Sıla’s Sıla 4 album, including Gelmedin, Biz Gidiyoruk, and Zeytinden Aşımısın.

 

 

 

The choir’s multi-voiced rendition of popular Cypriot songs was met with great appreciation from the audience, receiving praise for its harmonious performance and unique interpretation. The event, which was open to the public, celebrated the island’s rich musical heritage and demonstrated the faculty’s commitment to fostering cultural exchange through music.
