ACAE Recognizes Dr. Raif Kızıl for Promoting Sustainability Through Student Success

Dr. Raif M. Kızıl, Associate Professor and Vice Chair of the Graphic Design Department at Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, has been honored with the “Outstanding Educator” award by the American Association for Cultural and Art Exchange (ACAE) for the achievements of his students in the 7th Environmental Protection Art Creation Competition (EPACC).

In 2023, Dr. Kızıl was invited to China by Jianghan University to provide training to students, showcasing his expertise in graphic design and typography. During his time there, he shared his knowledge on graphic design principles and effective Western typography with Chinese students. Guiding them to create impactful projects addressing environmental issues, Dr. Kızıl’s educational efforts resulted in significant success.

Ten poster designs created by Chinese students who received training from Dr. Raif M. Kızıl participated in the EPACC organized by ACAE, with all ten designs bearing the signature of Kızıl’s students achieving great success in the competition, including winning top three positions in different categories and one receiving a special jury award.

The competition, aimed at generating innovative ideas addressing environmental conservation, sustainability, and harmonious coexistence between humans and the environment from various perspectives, not only showcased the talent of the students but also highlighted Dr. Kızıl’s effectiveness as an educator.

Dr. Raif M. Kızıl expressed his joy in representing his country and university in China, emphasizing the happiness he felt in witnessing the success of his Chinese students in the ACAE competition. He emphasized that their goal is not only to impart aesthetic skills to students but also to instill in them the ability to design solutions that are environmentally and socially conscious, contributing to the creation of sustainable cities and societies.

He further noted that the interaction with different societies and cultures is not only instructive but also inspiring in artistic production, highlighting the fruitful outcome of the educational program he conducted in China.

Dr. Kızıl’s commitment to sustainable design education and his students’ remarkable achievements underscore the importance of international collaboration and the integration of diverse perspectives in addressing global challenges.
