In a captivating cultural endeavour, 500 students from 10 schools in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) recently delved into the world of art during a week-long visit to the Near East Enterprises Museums. This initiative, extending into April, is set to impact 1,000 students, fostering a profound appreciation for art as a catalyst for personal and societal growth.
With a commitment to integrating art into daily life, the Near East Enterprises Museums welcomed primary, secondary, and high school students, aiming to nurture happiness, spiritual strength, and imaginative thinking. The cultural tours, held in February and March, guided students through prominent museums such as the Cyprus Museum of Modern Art, Cyprus Car Museum, Cyprus Herbarium and Natural History Museum, Walled City Museum, Günsel Art Museum, and Near East University Grand Library.
At the Cyprus Museum of Modern Art, students explored a diverse collection of over 50,000 artworks, representing the artistic heritage of 14 Turkish nations. The Cyprus Car Museum offered an immersive experience with its rich automobile collection, including toys and popular figures like Batman and Transformers.
The Herbarium and Natural History Museum provided an opportunity for students to examine 11,000 different plant specimens, mushroom varieties, and various species of insects, reptiles, sea creatures, fossils, and rocks, fostering an understanding of Cyprus's natural history.
Expressing gratitude, Professor Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul underscored the initiative's alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those promoting quality education, good health, and partnerships for the goals. The program not only enriches museum collections but also contributes to the holistic development of TRNC's youth within the framework of global sustainability objectives.
