The Zero Waste goal encourages public awareness, promoting the recycling of waste and supporting its use in ecosystems without causing harm, thereby carrying the mission of leaving a clean environment for future generations. The ‘Zero Waste Target’ project, initiated and continued under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Özge Özden, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Near East University, and under the patronage of Mrs. Sibel Tatar, the wife of the President of the TRNC, is being maintained as a pioneering and significant project in terms of waste management since its commencement in 2022. In this context, on January 4, 2024, Dean Prof. Dr. Özge Özden, accompanied by Mrs. Sibel Tatar, visited Esentepe Middle School to deliver a comprehensive presentation on waste separation as part of the ‘Zero Waste Target’ Project.
Also serving as the Chairperson of the Presidential Tourism and Environment Committee, Prof. Dr. Özge Özden conducted an informative session for the students of Esentepe Middle School. During the presentation, she emphasized the importance of recycling, its benefits, waste separation, ecosystems, climate change, and ecological footprint within the context of the “Zero Waste Target” Project.
As a head of the committee, she shared valuable insights into the significance of responsible waste management. The presentation aimed to raise awareness among teachers and students about the environmental impact of waste and the important role they play in achieving the “Zero Waste Target.”
Dean Prof. Dr. Özge Özden, with her expertise in the field, not only educated the audience about the environmental challenges but also highlighted the positive contributions that proper waste management can make to our ecosystems and the fight against climate change. The visit and presentation were part of the ongoing efforts to promote environmental consciousness and sustainable practices within the community.
