The Museums of the Near East Formation (Yakın Doğu Oluşumu Müzeleri) are actively contributing to the education and cultural enrichment of students in schools across the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC). A recent visit by 60 students from Alayköy Primary School, accompanied by their teachers, to prominent museums such as the Cyprus Modern Art Museum, Cyprus Car Museum, Inner City Museum, GÜNSEL Art Museum, and Cyprus Herbarium and Natural History Museum marked a celebration of art ahead of World Art Day on April 15.
This visit not only brought together the world of art and students from Alayköy Primary School but also propelled the total number of students visiting the Yakın Doğu Oluşumu museums in the past two months to exceed 900. The initiative aims to further acquaint students in KKTC schools with the inspiring power of art, fostering a connection with culture and creativity.
During their museum exploration, students immersed themselves in hours filled with art, culture, and science. Notably, at the Cyprus Modern Art Museum, housing over 50,000 artworks, students had the opportunity to closely inspect a rich collection of paintings and sculptures by 14 Turkish artists, creating joyful moments with ship models, glassware, and sword collections.
The Cyprus Car Museum, located on the Near East University campus, became a focal point for children, offering an engaging experience with its extensive collection of automobiles, machine parts-turned-toys, model cars, pedal cars, and popular figures like Batman and Transformers.
At the Herbarium and Natural History Museum, students delved into nature's wonders, exploring 11,000 plant specimens, mushroom varieties, insect species, reptiles, marine life, fossils, and rocks, all under one roof.
The visit to the Inner City Museum provided students with a captivating glimpse into Cyprus's cultural identity and history, including depictions of historical events such as the Ottoman Empire's conquest of Nicosia and the arrival of the British in Larnaca.
This educational initiative not only aligns with the cultural and artistic development of the students but also contributes to the broader objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals
