The Molecular Ecology Research Center (MERCen) at Near East University, in collaboration with the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, recently held the first event in a new seminar series. This initiative aims to foster knowledge exchange across different organizational levels and disciplines. The seminar featured Özge Durak, an 11th-grade student from Adana Özel Başkent Schools, who recently received the TÜBİTAK Encouragement Award in the field of Molecular and Cellular Biology.

Founded in 2023, MERCen is dedicated to researching the effects of human pressure and climate change on ecosystems using molecular and genetic techniques. The center also strives to develop solutions in collaboration with other disciplines and raise awareness about sustainable resource use within society.

During the event, Özge Durak delivered a presentation titled “Cancer Biology and New Treatments” to an audience of university students. Her talk provided insights into cancer, its treatment methods, and emerging approaches in the field. The seminar marked an inspiring interaction between high school and university students, emphasizing the importance of knowledge sharing and collaboration in advancing scientific research.
