International Conference Series on Water and Sustainable Environmental Management Gathers Hundreds of Global Scientists

The 3rd International Conference on Water Problems in Mediterranean Countries (WPMC) and the 6th International Conference on Sustainable Environmental Management (NRSEM) were recently organized by the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Near East University. Attended by representatives from 27 countries and featuring 13 distinguished speakers, the conferences aimed to address water-related challenges and discuss sustainable environmental management.

With the participation of 300 scientists from 50 universities, the conferences spanned two days and covered topics such as water-related issues in arid and semi-arid regions, especially in the Mediterranean area, and current challenges in the sustainable management of natural resources and environmental sustainability. Experts from various countries, including China, Turkey, Iran, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Azerbaijan, Tunisia, India, France, Morocco, and more, presented their studies during the event.

The opening and closing ceremonies were honored by the presence of President Ersin Tatar, emphasizing the significance of the outcomes for guiding policies on sustainable environments. The conferences aimed not only to analyze current challenges but also to inspire heightened awareness and responsibility for human rights at individual and organizational levels.

President Tatar highlighted the global nature of environmental issues, urging collective efforts and global solutions. He praised the positive impact of bringing water to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus from Turkey and expressed readiness to share water resources with the Greek side.

The conferences concluded with the promise of publishing a proceedings book containing the presented papers, offering valuable insights to the scientific community. In the closing speeches, speakers emphasized the critical role of regional cooperation and shared experiences in finding common solutions to water problems and natural resource management.

The Rector of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, stressed the importance of universities and scientists in addressing sustainability challenges, citing the institution’s commitment to organizing over a thousand scientific events annually. The discussions covered various aspects, from climate change and water scarcity to sustainable urbanization, aiming to contribute to a more livable world and a healthier environment.

The conferences provided a platform for international collaboration between scientists, policymakers, and institutions, fostering the exchange of knowledge and the development of effective solutions to environmental challenges.
