Joint Protocol with the Nicosia Turkish Municipality for the Protection and Empowerment of Women

On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25 November), Near East University and the Nicosia Turkish Municipality signed a cooperation protocol to strengthen support services for women affected by violence and their children. The agreement, endorsed by Mayor Mehmet Harmancı and NEU Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, ensures free access to comprehensive healthcare services at the Near East University Hospital and Dental Hospital, including medical examinations, laboratory tests, imaging, and oral health treatments. Women and children identified as needing psychological care will also receive free professional therapy services.

In addition, the protocol provides guidance on postnatal care, breastfeeding, and infant health for new mothers, alongside vocational training and personal development programs aimed at preparing women for working life and economic independence. All personal data will be protected under data privacy legislation. The initiative will be coordinated by the Near East University Center for Gender Studies and Practice (TOCAM), reinforcing institutional collaboration to promote protection, empowerment, and long-term social recovery.
