The “I Love You, I Am Your Voice” project, led by Sibel Tatar, the wife of President Ersin Tatar, was officially launched under the auspices of the Presidency with wide participation. Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, the Cyprus Foundation for the Hearing and Speech Impaired (KİKEV), and supported by the Near East University Social Research and Development Center, the project aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by the hearing-impaired and promote inclusivity in communication.
The project emphasizes the importance of making sign language a natural part of everyday communication, ensuring that hearing-impaired individuals can express themselves freely and participate fully in social and cultural life. The event featured a presentation of the project’s objectives and messages shared by hearing-impaired individuals in sign language. Performances in sign language also highlighted the cultural and emotional richness that inclusive communication brings to society.
President Ersin Tatar stressed the importance of such initiatives in building a more inclusive community and underscored the role of education in integrating sign language into the lives of all citizens. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting the rights of individuals with disabilities and called on society to work together to amplify their voices.
Near East University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt emphasized that the project aims to foster empathy and strengthen communication with hearing-impaired individuals. He highlighted that effective communication involves understanding, listening, and making space for all voices.
KİKEV President Bahire Doğru shared details about the foundation’s ongoing efforts, including Turkish Sign Language training programs, and thanked all stakeholders for their contributions. She underlined that communication and accessibility are fundamental rights and stressed the importance of continued collaboration to achieve these goals.
The “I Love You, I Am Your Voice” project seeks to make a lasting impact by encouraging society to embrace sign language and build stronger connections with the hearing-impaired, fostering a more inclusive and empathetic future.
