Literacy Program and Protocol For Child Protection Agency Mothers

An education program for illiterate mothers was launched through a cooperation protocol signed between Near East University and the Turkish Cypriot Child Protection Agency. Ranked among the world’s top 500 universities, Near East University continues to extend its academic expertise into society through impactful community partnerships. Within this scope, the “Literacy Course Cooperation Protocol” was initiated by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences with the leadership of the Community Engagement Commission and the Department of Turkish Language Teaching.

The program is carried out with the voluntary contributions of faculty members and students, aiming not only to teach basic reading and writing skills but also to strengthen participants’ everyday communication abilities. The first phase involves ten mothers enrolled in a six-month training program, supported by volunteer instructors from the Turkish Language Teaching Department. Program coordination is led by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yeniasır, Prof. Dr. Burak Gökbulut, and Tülay Kaya Tekman, while instruction is provided by student educators Tülaynur Koyun and Ezgi Demirel. Through this initiative, Near East University fosters educational inclusion and empowers women through literacy-focused community engagement.
