Near East University has secured the 139th position worldwide in the prestigious “Young University Rankings 2024” by Times Higher Education, which evaluates the best universities under the age of 50 globally. This recognition places Near East University at the forefront in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and among the top three young universities in Turkey, alongside Koç University and Sabancı University.

The London-based Times Higher Education agency annually assesses over 12,000 universities around the world in its research. The evaluation is based on 18 criteria under main headings such as teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook. To be considered for the ranking, universities must have published at least 1,000 scientific articles in journals indexed in the Elsevier Scopus database over the past five years.

In the teaching category, the university’s learning environment is evaluated, while the research category examines the number of studies conducted, the income, and the reputation generated from these studies. The number of citations, reflecting the impact of the research, along with the international outlook of faculty members, students, and their research, are also key factors. Additionally, the ability to transfer knowledge from research to industry is considered.
