The Near East University and Gönyeli-Alayköy Municipality signed a strategic cooperation protocol to introduce technology-based solutions in urban management. This partnership aims to implement innovative projects across various sectors like energy, waste management, and transportation, envisioning a sustainable and technologically advanced city.
The collaboration seeks to leverage technology in city management within Northern Cyprus through educational programs, research endeavors, and joint projects. Among the priorities are enhancing energy efficiency and introducing smart solutions in waste management, traffic control, and transportation.
NEU Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ highlighted the need for innovative approaches to ensure sustainable urban living in Northern Cyprus. Emphasizing the university’s capacity for groundbreaking technological solutions, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, aiming to merge NEU’s expertise with Gönyeli-Alayköy Municipality’s vision.
Gönyeli-Alayköy Municipality Mayor Hüseyin Amcaoğlu stressed the importance of this partnership to enhance efficiency, especially in water, energy, and waste management. He highlighted the municipality’s commitment to science-based governance, aiming to address climate change and environmental sustainability.
