Near East University and Manisa Celal Bayar University Develop Hepatitis D PCR Diagnostic Kit

Near East University and Manisa Celal Bayar University have jointly developed a “Hepatitis D Virus Real-Time PCR Diagnostic Kit” to enable early and accurate detection of Hepatitis Delta virus (HDV). The project, carried out by the Near East University DESAM Research Institute’s Kit Production and Genome Analysis Laboratory in collaboration with Manisa Celal Bayar University, aims to address the shortage of diagnostic kits and ease the burden on healthcare systems.

HDV, which requires the presence of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) to replicate, accelerates the progression of HBV infection, increasing the risk of cirrhosis and liver cancer. Early detection of HDV is vital for effective treatment planning and disease management.

The newly developed PCR kit offers a significant tool for early diagnosis, helping physicians control infections more rapidly. The research findings have also been published internationally, contributing to global scientific knowledge and public health protection.
