Near East University Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker Özşahin Advances Alzheimer’s Research

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker Özşahin, a faculty member of Biomedical Engineering at Near East University and Board Member of the Health Operations Center, has made significant contributions to Alzheimer’s research at Cornell University over the past two years. Assigned by Near East University, Dr. Özşahin has been actively involved in projects at the Brain Health Imaging Institute (BHII) within the Department of Radiology at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. His research, supported by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH), focuses on Alzheimer’s disease, vascular disorders, pediatric epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, and aging.

Dr. Özşahin’s work at BHII includes innovative studies on the biological characterization and treatment of memory and dementia disorders, the development of target research populations for biomarker assessment, and the creation of new imaging methods to enhance the understanding of neurologically damaging diseases. His research has been recognized and published in high-impact journals such as the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, American Journal of Neuroradiology, Brain Communications, and Pharmaceutics.

Dr. Özşahin also shared his findings at prestigious conferences and recently delivered a seminar at Near East University titled “Unraveling Neurodegenerative Changes: Microglial Activation to Glymphatic Dynamics in Alzheimer’s Disease and Innovations in Imaging.” His contributions are paving the way for new diagnostic and treatment methods for neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s.
