Near East University Faculty of Dentistry Collaborates with Gönyeli-Alayköy Municipality for Antibiotic Awareness Campaign

Near East University Faculty of Dentistry, in collaboration with the Near East University Sustainability Office and Gönyeli-Alayköy Municipality, organized an impactful event in the last week of December 2023 aimed at educating both the local community and businesses in the Gönyeli region while creating awareness about antibiotic usage.

The initiative, led by dentistry faculty students, sought to address the pertinent issue of antibiotic misuse and educate the populace on its responsible use. Students visited local businesses, engaging with owners and staff to discuss queries related to antibiotic usage. They distributed informative posters emphasizing the importance of appropriate antibiotic use, encouraging responsible practices among the community members.

This collaborative effort not only served to inform and engage the community but also aligned with the broader agenda of sustainable development goals. By focusing on the responsible use of antibiotics, the event contributed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically targeting Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3) and Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11).

The involvement of the Gönyeli-Alayköy Municipality highlighted the significance of partnerships between academic institutions and local government bodies in fostering community engagement and addressing public health concerns.

Prof. Dr. Sevcan Kurtulmuş Yılmaz, a member of Faculty of Dentistry, expressed enthusiasm about the positive impact of such initiatives on promoting health literacy and fostering a culture of responsible antibiotic use. The event not only provided valuable knowledge but also exemplified the power of collaboration in driving positive change within local communities.

Overall, this joint effort between Near East University’s Dentistry Faculty, the Sustainability Office, and Gönyeli-Alayköy Municipality exemplifies a proactive approach toward addressing health-related issues while advocating for sustainable practices within communities.
