Prof. Dr. Aşkın Ali Korkmaz began the seminar by sharing information about the infrastructure, technological capabilities, and diagnostic and treatment services of the Near East University Hospital in Yeniboğaziçi, which commenced operations on November 21, 2022. The hospital, occupying 15,000 square meters, offers a range of services, including 36 service beds, 6 general intensive care units, 3 cardiovascular surgery intensive care units, 2 coronary intensive care units, 4 neonatal intensive care units, 3 operating rooms, polyclinic services in all specialties, a physical medicine and rehabilitation unit, dietitian services, coronary angiography, laboratory services, 1.5 Tesla MR with 128K Computerized Tomography, ultrasound, bone densitometry, radiology center with X-ray, and biochemistry, microbiology, and pathology laboratories.
The seminar delved into heart health, cardiovascular diseases, and treatment methods. Op. Dr. Aşkın Pekbay presented information on coronary artery diseases responsible for heart attack-related deaths, covering risk factors, symptoms, and diagnosis and treatment methods. Emphasizing preventive measures such as regular exercise, healthy eating, and a smoke-free lifestyle, Dr. Pekbay also highlighted the importance of social support, stress management, and maintaining a balance between sleep and energy for those exposed to and undergoing treatment for coronary artery diseases.
In the second part of the seminar, Prof. Dr. Aşkın Ali Korkmaz drew attention to innovations in cardiovascular surgery. He emphasized that they have the expertise and equipment to perform all cardiovascular surgeries. Prof. Dr. Aşkın Ali Korkmaz highlighted that in Turkey, coronary bypass surgeries and heart valve surgeries can be performed with small incisions, offering advantages such as cosmetic benefits, psychological well-being, reduced postoperative pain, shorter hospitalization, early recovery, and a quicker return to daily life, in addition to significantly lower mortality risk.
Prof. Dr. Aşkın Ali Korkmaz announced that the “Health Seminars for Everyone” series, in collaboration with İskele Municipality, will continue nationwide to inform the public.
