Near East University Hosts Informative Symposium on World Diabetes Day

On November 14, 2023, the Faculty of Health Sciences at Near East University, in collaboration with the DESAM Research Institute of Near East University and the Cyprus Turkish Diabetes Association, organized a symposium titled “World Diabetes Day Symposium.” During the symposium, Taner Morris, the President of the Cyprus Turkish Diabetes Association, provided insights into the prevalence of diabetes in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the challenges faced by individuals with diabetes.

Continuing the discussion, Nutritionist Gizem Oymacı delivered a presentation titled “Living with Diabetes.” The symposium featured contributions from various academic departments, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Hoca and Dr. Nutritionist Müjgan Kuşi sharing information on the medical nutritional management of diabetes. Additionally, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuba Yerlikaya provided a physiotherapist’s perspective on evaluating diabetes, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Betül Mammadov approached the disease from a midwifery standpoint, enlightening the audience on these aspects.

The symposium, held on World Diabetes Day, witnessed significant participation from academics, students, and the public. This multidisciplinary event aimed to educate individuals from different segments of society, emphasizing the importance of diabetes from various perspectives.
