Near East University has launched a comprehensive aid campaign in response to the recent earthquake affecting Kahramanmaraş and surrounding Turkish provinces. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.7, caused extensive damage in the South East, Mediterranean, and Eastern Anatolia regions, including aftershocks. The university is addressing immediate needs through a dual initiative focusing on blood donation and winter clothing aid for the affected areas.
Blood Donation Drive: To support the blood needs of earthquake victims, Near East University is facilitating blood donations at three locations: Near East University Hospital, Dr. Suat Günsel University of Kyrenia Hospital, and Near East University Yeniboğaziçi Hospital.
Winter Clothing and Blanket Collection: Recognizing the urgency for winter clothing and blankets, especially in the cold aftermath of the earthquake, Near East University is collecting these items at the Near East University AKKM.
Leadership Initiatives: The Founding Rector, Dr. Suat İrfan Günsel, set the tone for the campaign by making the inaugural blood donation, expressing solidarity with the words, “Get well soon, my Turkey! We are with you with our blood and soul.” Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, echoed this sentiment, urging public support and emphasizing the unity of Northern Cyprus Turks with their homeland during these challenging times.
Community Call to Action: Near East University invites the public to contribute to these vital campaigns, emphasizing the collective responsibility to stand by Turkey in the face of this crisis. The university's commitment to providing essential assistance underscores the solidarity and humanitarian spirit needed to aid the earthquake victims.
