Near East University hosted Cyprus’s first comprehensive Model United Nations (NEUMUN) Conference with international participation, organized by the Near East Institute. Held at the Grand Library, the event brought together university students to debate global challenges and promote diplomacy.
Participants formed three UN-style committees to address pressing issues: Global Human Trafficking, South Africa’s Genocide Case Against Israel, and Nuclear Weapons Proliferation. Representing different countries, students proposed solutions while improving their public speaking, negotiation, and critical thinking skills.
Colin Stewart, the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Cyprus, contributed to the event with a video message, underlining the importance of youth engagement in global affairs.
By simulating UN bodies such as the Human Rights Council and the International Court of Justice, NEUMUN offered a unique platform for civic learning and international dialogue.
