A newly discovered endemic anise species in Turkey has been named “Pimpinella husnucan-baseri, Can Anise” in honor of Prof. Dr. Hüsnü Can Başer, Head of the Pharmacognosy Department at Near East University Faculty of Pharmacy. This marks the fifth time a plant species in Turkey has been named after Prof. Dr. Başer, who is renowned for his scientific contributions to medicinal and aromatic plants.

Researchers plan to investigate the plant’s potential as a raw material for medicine, given its medicinal and aromatic properties. The discovery highlights the importance of preserving Turkey’s unique biodiversity while exploring new resources for pharmaceutical research.
