Northern Cyprus Medical Students’ Union Showcases Global Commitment at European Meeting

Medical students from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), represented by the Northern Cyprus Medical Students’ Union (MSANC), made a significant impact at the European Regional Meeting organized by the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations. The event, held in Bosnia and Herzegovina, brought together students from 37 countries worldwide.

MSANC Vice President for Foreign Relations, Aysu Özbek, and General Secretary, Ataberk Erginol, actively participated in various sessions, including SCORE (Research Exchange), SCOPH (Public Health), SCOPE (Internship Exchange), and chairmanship discussions. They also showcased the projects and activities carried out in Northern Cyprus to fellow medical students, emphasizing the global engagement of the MSANC.

A highlight of the event was the opportunity for Near East University Faculty of Medicine students, Aysu Özbek and Ataberk Erginol, to present their initiatives during plenary sessions. They also utilized the internship exchange fair to introduce the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Near East University Hospital.

Expressing pride in representing their country, Aysu Özbek highlighted the importance of the experience gained and announced plans for future studies benefiting medical students on the island. Ataberk Erginol underlined the significance of the IFMSA European Regional Meeting as a platform to introduce MSANC and the TRNC to European nations.

MSANC President Sara Darweesh emphasized the importance of actively participating in decision-making processes that impact medical students in the TRNC. Acknowledging the support received from Near East University, she expressed gratitude to Prof. Dudu Özkum Yavuz and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mahmut Çerkez Ergören.

Prof. Dudu Özkum Yavuz, Dean of Students at Near East University, commended the contributions of MSANC to the international medical student community. She pledged ongoing support for students representing the university and the TRNC in various international organizations, emphasizing the commitment to training future doctors with a global perspective.
