
Near East University hosted the “Olive Producer Meetings”, organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture, Food Engineering Department, and İrfan Günsel Research Center. The event brought together expert olive producers, scientists, and students to explore ways to improve olive production in Northern Cyprus.
Attendees included Prof. Dr. Özge Özden, Dean of the Near East University Faculty of Agriculture, Erkut Uluçam, President of the TRNC Chamber of Agricultural Engineers, and Cem Karaca, Director of the Agricultural Research Institute. Opening speeches were delivered by Prof. Dr. Özge Özden, Dr. Mehmet Güler, President of the Adana Olive Production and Marketing Cooperative, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şebnem Güler from Near East University.
The event focused on olive diversity, fertilization biology, and productivity enhancement techniques. Experts discussed the genetic, biological, physiological, and morphological characteristics of local olive varieties. Additionally, scientific presentations covered pollinator selection, adaptation abilities, and maintenance practices for increasing olive yield.
Participants gained valuable insights into modern olive production techniques and practical solutions, strengthening the sector’s future with scientific knowledge and innovation.
