Practical Permaculture Farming Event for High School Students

Professor Dr. Özge Özden, Near East University’s Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, took part in an enlightening event titled “Permaculture Farming,” targeting students of 19 May Turkish Maarif College. The event, held under the umbrella of the Green Schools Project, aimed to introduce the concept of permaculture and its practical applications to the younger generation.

During the interactive session, Professor Özden engaged the students in hands-on activities, demonstrating various aspects of permaculture farming. She delved into the importance of cultivating plants that are compatible with their environment, emphasizing the need for sustainable agricultural practices. Additionally, she underscored the significance of urban farming, citing its potential to address food security issues and promote a healthier lifestyle in densely populated areas.

Moreover, Professor Özden shed light on the critical role of pollinators in ecosystems and discussed methods for creating pollinator-friendly habitats through strategic planting. By raising awareness about the interdependence between plants and pollinators, she emphasized the importance of preserving biodiversity in agricultural landscapes.
