The Near East University Social Research and Development Center has launched a noteworthy initiative to provide psychosocial support to students in public schools, particularly those affected by earthquakes. Following the successful implementation at Haspolat Primary School, the project is set to extend its positive impact to Beyarmudu Primary School.
This groundbreaking Psychosocial Support Project aims to offer students crucial social and psychological assistance. The initial phase, conducted at Haspolat Primary School over a 5-week program, specifically targeted students impacted by earthquakes. Through activities like painting, play techniques, fairy tale reading, and language exercises, a total of 270 students benefited from the program, fostering a supportive environment.
Notably, the project aligns with the principles of sustainable development, emphasizing quality education, reduced inequalities, and collaborative partnerships. The activities encompassed not only psychosocial support but also included events like artistic activities, sports feasts, and celebrations, promoting socialization and harmony among students.
This voluntary initiative was spearheaded by Assist. Prof. Dr. Şebnem Güldal Kan and Assist. Prof. Dr. Fatma Miralay from Near East University Ataturk Faculty of Education, along with contributions from Prof.Dr. Fahriye Altınay and Prof.Dr. Dr. Zehra Altınay Gazi, President of the Near East University Social Research and Development Center, and other dedicated academicians and students.
Building on the success at Haspolat Primary School, the project is set to continue at Beyarmudu Primary School. The upcoming program will encompass "Secure School and Technology Seminar" and "Psychosocial Support Training Practices in Multicultural Environment," with key roles assigned to Assist. Prof. Dr. Şahin Akdağ, Assist. Prof. Dr. Şebnem Güldal Kan, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Fatma Miralay.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Şebnem Güldal Kan expressed enthusiasm about the project's positive outcomes and revealed plans to expand it to other public schools upon demand. The dedication of the team and the potential for broader implementation highlight the project's commitment to fostering sustainable development in education and social support.
