Support for Individuals with Disabilities at Near East University
At Near East University, we believe that true academic excellence is rooted in inclusivity, respect, and equal opportunity for all individuals, regardless of ability. The university is proud to maintain a strong and continuous commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities, not only by recognizing their rights and contributions but also by actively fostering an environment that values and empowers them.
As part of this mission, various centers and units within the university are dedicated to providing services that cater to the diverse needs of individuals with disabilities.
Near East University Disability Rights Monitoring Committee (EHİK)
One of the key components of this effort is the Disability Rights Monitoring Committee, which plays a vital role in observing, advocating for, and improving the rights and conditions of individuals with disabilities within the university setting. EHİK serves as a platform for dialogue, policy review, and the continuous development of inclusive practices aligned with national and international standards.
Disabled Student Support Unit
Additionally, the Disabled Student Support Unit, which operates under the Office of the Dean of Students, ensures that students with disabilities have full access to educational opportunities, campus facilities, and support systems throughout their academic journey.
All Near East University students and students with special needs are treated equally. Every effort is made to provide practical solutions to the special needs and problems of students with disabilities. Assistance in academic matters; extra tutoring arrangements, ease of access to university facilities with an official letter from the school, providing all possible assistance during exams, etc. support our students with disabilities and work to make their lives easier.
Targeted Support and Mentoring Services
Students with disabilities benefit from individualized academic mentoring, counselling, and guidance services. These targeted support mechanisms aim to promote academic success and full participation in university life. The support unit works closely with students to identify their unique needs and offer tailored solutions, including exam accommodations and curriculum flexibility.
Accessible On-Campus Accommodation
Near East University provides on-campus accommodation options accessible to students with physical disabilities. Modified residence rooms are equipped with accessible entrances, ramps, and bathrooms to ensure barrier-free living arrangements for all residents requiring such facilities.
Reasonable Adjustments and Funding Commitment
The university is committed to implementing reasonable adjustments for students and staff with disabilities. This includes accessible learning environments, assistive technologies, adapted teaching methods, and appropriate resource allocation to remove barriers and ensure equal campus access to academic and social life.
