A panel titled “Sustainable Development Goals in Municipalities” was held on March 4, 2024, at the Cyprus Turkish Orthopedic Disabled Association. The event was organized in collaboration with the Cyprus Turkish Orthopedic Disabled Association, the Near East University Societal Research and Development Center, and the Ministry of Interior Local Governments Directorate. Key speakers included University of Kyrenia Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Gökmen Dağlı, Lancaster University’s Prof. Dr. Phillip Benanchour, and Cenk Dökmen, Head of the Ministry of Interior Local Governments.

The panel addressed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with practical examples from both local and global contexts. Municipal representatives, as well as members of the union of municipalities, attended the event. Moderated by Prof. Dr. Zehra Altınay and Prof. Dr. Fahriye Altınay, the panel also concluded with a focus on strategic planning for local governments to support SDG 5 (gender equality) and SDG 10 (reducing inequalities).
