The Near East University has been actively promoting gender equality and celebrating women’s achievements not only on International Women’s Day but throughout the year. Established 36 years ago, it has now become one of the largest institutions in Northern Cyprus and Turkey, proudly showcasing significant female representation across all sectors.
With women comprising 50% of the 893 faculty members and holding key administrative positions, including deanships and vice-rector roles, their influence in academic management is substantial. They also lead various research centers and colleges, contributing significantly to the university’s academic output.The overall average of women within the university stands at an impressive rate of 62%.
According to Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, the high proportion of female employees is a testament to the university’s commitment to evaluating individuals based solely on merit, irrespective of gender.
Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, the Rector, expressed immense pride in the strong representation of women across administrative and academic domains. He emphasized the importance of fostering an environment where talent and dedication are valued equally, laying the foundation for sustainable growth and inclusivity.
