We Have a Word to Say, We Have the Power to Change

Academics and experts came together at Near East University for an event held in the context of the November 25th International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, delivering strong messages on the multidimensional nature of violence against women and young people. Organized by the Department of Midwifery at the Faculty of Health Sciences under the slogan “We Have a Word to Say, We Have the Power to Change,” the event marked the first in a series of awareness activities planned throughout the week. The program was moderated by Prof. Dr. Adile Öniz Özgören, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayça Atay, Head of the Gender Research and Application Center (TOCAM). Opening remarks were delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Filiz Yarıcı, Head of the Midwifery Department, who emphasized in her presentation “Midwives Defend Women’s Rights” that midwives play a vital role not only in childbirth but throughout every stage of women’s lives. She underlined the responsibility of health professionals in identifying, preventing, and responding to violence against women.
