Near East University Hosts “TRNC Nuclear Medicine Symposium” With Experts from Multiple Countries

The inaugural “TRNC Nuclear Medicine Symposium,” hosted by Near East University, pioneered advancements in the TRNC by assembling experts from Turkey, Germany, Azerbaijan, and TRNC itself.

Organized in collaboration with Near East University Faculty of Medicine and Near East University Hospital, the symposium centered on the theme of “Molecular Imaging and Therapies.” Throughout five comprehensive sessions, the symposium delved into current developments, challenges, and innovative solutions in nuclear medicine. Experts shared cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment modalities for various diseases, advocating a multidisciplinary approach.

Prof. Dr. Nuri Arslan, Head of Nuclear Medicine Department at Near East University, shared pioneering diagnostic and treatment methods in TRNC's nuclear medicine landscape. Expressing delight in hosting the inaugural symposium, Dr. Arslan emphasized the significance of international collaboration and knowledge exchange among physicians.

The symposium commenced with introductory speeches by Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan, Dean of Near East University Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen, Chief Physician of Near East University Hospital. Discussions spanned the history of nuclear medicine in Azerbaijan, Turkey, and TRNC, alongside current treatment methodologies. Topics included the rapidly evolving application of "radioteranostic" methods and the production models of radioactive drugs vital for disease diagnosis.

Sessions two to four addressed topics such as the production of radioactive drugs used in PET CT, preclinical studies involving experimental animals, diagnosis and treatments of various cancers, and targeted radionuclide therapies. The emphasis remained on personalized radionuclide therapies and systemic treatments enhancing the quality of life for cancer patients.

Prof. Dr. Mocan highlighted the Near East University’s commitment to training exceptional physicians and sharing scientific endeavors for societal health contributions. Stressing the institution's international presence, Prof. Dr. Mocan affirmed their dedication to global medical advancements.

Prof. Dr. Yenen emphasized successful radionuclide treatments for prostate, primary and metastatic liver cancers, and neuroendocrine tumors, emphasizing the hospital's pioneering Cancer Center's comprehensive services and technological advancements.
