Held on December 3rd, commemorating World Disability Day, the workshop convened experts to assess the current state of disability rights, pinpoint challenges, and propose solutions. Discussions revolved around strategies to enhance the quality of life for disabled individuals and ensure equal opportunities.
Opening the workshop, Prof. Dr. Zehra Altınay, President of the Near East University Social Research and Development Center, and Prof. Dr. Dudu Özkum Yavuz, Vice President of the Near East University Center of Excellence and Disability Rights Monitoring Committee Member, addressed the importance of the event. Dr. Deepika Kohli, an invited speaker from Education College, India, shared insights on inclusivity, accessibility, and inter-institutional cooperation in education and service sectors.
Under the theme of “Reducing Inequalities,” sessions moderated by Assist Prof. Dr. Şahin Akdağ and Assist. Prof. Dr. Menil Çelebi covered various topics. Presentations included “Disability and Health” by Prof. Dr. Kamil Seyrek İntaş, “Disability and Tourism” by Prof. Dr. Nesrin Menemenci Bahçelerli, “Physical, Architectural Access” by Assist. Prof. Dr. Ümran Duman, “Accessibility” by Assist. Prof. Dr. Kaan Uyar, “Rights and Law” by Assist. Prof. Dr. Aysun Beybola, “Employment” by Assist. Prof. Dr. Huseyin Baykan, and “Dormitories, Accommodation Services” by Recep Uğur Arslan.
The workshop facilitated a comprehensive exchange of ideas, fostering a collaborative approach to addressing challenges faced by disabled individuals and promoting inclusivity across various domains.
