Breast cancer remains the most common type of cancer among women worldwide and in Turkey. It occurs when cells in the breast tissue grow uncontrollably. According to the World Health Organization’s 2021 report, breast cancer ranks first among newly diagnosed cancers, accounting for 11.7% of all cases. In Turkey, the Ministry of Health’s data reflects a similar trend, with a total of 760 people diagnosed with breast cancer between 2012 and 2018, including 740 women and 20 men.
October is globally recognized as “Cancer Awareness Month,” and in line with this, the Department of Midwifery at Near East University’s Faculty of Health Sciences, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Filiz Yarıcı, has been conducting “Breast Cancer Awareness Training” in collaboration with the Cancer Patients Assistance Association. This October, the training sessions were held at schools and institutions, including Doğa College, Atatürk Vocational High School, Değirmenlik High School, and Metgin Ltd.
