
October is recognized as “Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” with numerous events organized to raise awareness, reduce risks, and promote early diagnosis to save lives. As part of this initiative, a seminar was held on October 16, 2024, at Esentepe Secondary School in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taygun Dayı, a faculty member of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Near East University’s Faculty of Health Sciences and a pediatric dietitian at Near East University Hospital, gave a presentation titled “Friend and Foe Foods for Cancer.” The seminar brought together 80 students from the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, who learned about the role of nutrition in cancer prevention.
During the seminar, Dr. Dayı shared valuable insights into the impact of food choices on cancer risk, emphasizing the importance of healthy eating habits. After the presentation, students were offered healthy snack alternatives, and Dr. Dayı answered their questions, fostering an interactive and informative atmosphere.
At the end of the seminar, Dr. Dayı was presented with a plaque and flowers in recognition of his contribution to raising awareness about cancer prevention. This event was an important step in educating young minds about the critical role of nutrition in health, especially in preventing cancer.
