“Resilient and Green Nicosia Workshop” Brings Experts Together for Sustainable Urban Planning

The “Resilient and Green Nicosia Workshop”, organized by Near East University Faculty of Agriculture, the Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB), Ufuk Planlama, and the Union of Cyprus Turkish Engineers and Architects (KTMMOB) Chamber of Landscape Architects, is underway at the LTB headquarters. The workshop aims to strengthen Nicosia’s green infrastructure and shape a resilient and sustainable capital city vision.

Bringing together academics, local government representatives, and professionals from TRNC, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan, the six-day workshop is part of the Urban Forest Life Workshop Multidisciplinary Spatial Planning Training. Participants include students and experts in urban and regional planning, architecture, landscape architecture, and forestry engineering.

The opening featured speeches by Dr. Nejla Kılınç (Founder and Project Coordinator, Urban Forest Life Workshop), Prof. Dr. Özge Özden (Dean, NEU Faculty of Agriculture), Doç. Dr. Buket Asilsoy (Deputy Dean, NEU Faculty of Agriculture; LTB Council Member), Ferdiye Sav (LTB Technical Works and Urban Design Committee Coordinator), and Mehmet Harmancı (LTB Mayor).

Through presentations and working groups, the workshop seeks to enhance Nicosia’s green infrastructure, improve climate resilience, and develop a sustainable urban vision. It also fosters collaboration among academia, local authorities, professionals, and civil society to guide future urban planning and environmental policies.
