Near East University supports the health and well-being of its students through accessible healthcare services, financial arrangements that reduce healthcare costs, free psychological counselling, and professional mental health support.

These continuing services are complemented by student-focused activities that promote psychological well-being, raise awareness of mental health challenges, and encourage students to seek support when needed. In 2025, the university continued providing healthcare and mental health services while organising educational and awareness activities addressing anxiety, stress, burnout, and psychological resilience.

Health Services for Students

Access to Healthcare Through Near East Hayat

All Near East University students are covered by Near East Hayat insurance, which provides access to discounted healthcare services at Near East University Hospital, the university’s own teaching hospital.

This arrangement enables students to benefit from affordable medical care within the university’s healthcare infrastructure, reducing financial barriers to accessing professional health services during their studies.

Near East University Hospital provides a comprehensive range of medical services, enabling students to receive healthcare support through an established institutional system.

Through Near East Hayat insurance and the university hospital’s healthcare services, Near East University supports students’ physical health and access to medical care throughout their university education.

Mental Health Support for Students

Near East University provides students with access to psychological counselling, specialised mental healthcare, and support mechanisms addressing the emotional and psychological challenges associated with university life.

The university’s approach combines free psychological counselling, guidance and referral services, additional psychiatric and psychological care, and activities that actively promote positive mental health among students.

Free Psychological Counselling and Psychotherapy – PDRAM

Near East University’s Psychological Counselling, Guidance and Research Centre (PDRAM) provides free psychological counselling and support services to university students.

The centre assists students experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, difficulties adapting to university life, relationship problems, family conflicts, and other personal or emotional challenges.

Through individual counselling, psychological guidance, and psychotherapy, PDRAM supports students in developing coping strategies, managing emotional difficulties, and improving their psychological well-being.

All active Near East University students can access PDRAM’s psychological counselling services free of charge.

Appointments are available on weekdays between 09:00 and 16:00. The centre is located on the ground floor of the Faculty of Law building, and students can request appointments directly or through the university’s student support channels.

PDRAM provides an established and accessible source of professional mental health support throughout students’ university education.

Student Guidance and Referral to Mental Health Services

The Psychological Counselling Unit of the Near East University Student Dean’s Office serves as an additional point of contact for students seeking psychological or psychiatric assistance.

Students experiencing difficulties related to stress, anxiety, depression, adaptation to university life, family relationships, or other personal concerns can contact the Student Dean’s Office for guidance.

Depending on their individual needs, students are referred to PDRAM for free psychological counselling or to the Psychiatry Clinic of Near East University Hospital for specialised psychiatric assessment and care.

This referral system helps students identify appropriate services and access professional support according to the nature of their psychological or psychiatric needs.

Additional Psychiatric and Psychological Services

Near East University students can also access professional psychiatric and psychological services through Near East University Hospital, the university’s own teaching hospital.

These specialised services are provided through the hospital’s appointment system, with discounted healthcare provisions for eligible students.

The availability of free psychological counselling through PDRAM, together with specialised psychiatric and psychological services at the university hospital, provides students with complementary pathways to mental healthcare.

Active Promotion of Good Mental Health

Alongside professional counselling and clinical services, Near East University actively promotes positive mental health through student engagement, awareness initiatives, educational seminars, and activities addressing psychological well-being.

The university’s Student Dean’s Office, academic departments, and student organisations contribute to these initiatives by creating opportunities for students to discuss mental health challenges, develop coping skills, and learn about available support services.

Psychology Days II: The Age of Tired Minds – Coping with Anxiety, Stress, and Burnout

In December 2025, Near East University’s Student Dean’s Office and Psychology Club organised “Psychology Days II – The Age of Tired Minds: Coping with Anxiety, Stress, and Burnout in the Modern World.”

The event brought together students, academics, and psychology specialists to discuss mental health challenges associated with contemporary life and explore practical approaches to psychological well-being.

Faculty members from the Department of Psychology addressed topics including coping with anxiety and stress during adolescence, psychological resilience, stress management, psychological flexibility, burnout, and emotional recovery.

The programme provided evidence-informed approaches to recognising psychological difficulties, managing stress, strengthening emotional resilience, and maintaining mental well-being.

Through expert presentations and student participation, Psychology Days II encouraged open discussions about mental health and increased awareness of strategies that students can apply in their personal and academic lives.

Organised in cooperation with the student-led Psychology Club, the programme also strengthened student participation in mental health promotion and awareness activities across the university.

Promoting Awareness of Available Psychological Support

Near East University actively informs students about available psychological support services through the Student Dean’s Office and its student communication channels.

The university’s “Take Care of Yourself” (Kendine İyi Bak!) awareness message promotes access to free psychological counselling and therapy through PDRAM, providing students with information about the service and how to seek professional assistance.

These communications complement the university’s counselling and referral mechanisms by making available services more visible and encouraging students to seek support for psychological or emotional difficulties.

The combination of student-focused communication, professional guidance, and awareness activities helps promote positive attitudes towards mental health and the use of psychological support services.

Continuing Student Mental Health Awareness Activities

The university’s mental health promotion activities in 2025 build on earlier initiatives addressing students’ psychological well-being.

On 13 December 2024, Near East University organised “The Keys to Healthy Relationships,” a student-focused seminar led by specialists from the Department of Psychology.

The programme addressed attachment styles, emotional regulation, interpersonal communication, and the development of healthy relationships, providing students with practical knowledge relevant to their psychological well-being.

The organisation of Psychology Days II in 2025 continued this approach, extending student-focused discussions to anxiety, stress, psychological resilience, and burnout.

Together, these activities demonstrate an ongoing institutional approach to mental health promotion through accessible educational opportunities, student participation, and awareness of psychological well-being.
