Young healthcare professionals from Near East University addressed the health and economic impacts of tobacco use through a “Tobacco Control Training” program. The two-day training, delivered in both English and Turkish, attracted strong student participation and will continue throughout May across six health-related faculties, including medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, health sciences, and veterinary medicine.
The initiative, organized by members of the Tobacco Control Club under the Student Dean’s Office, aims to promote a tobacco-free campus and society. It reflects the university’s commitment to preparing students with strong social responsibility awareness while addressing one of the most preventable public health risks.
The program is structured into two main sections: “Health Impact of Tobacco” and “Economic Impact of Tobacco.” It highlights the severe consequences of tobacco use, including cardiovascular diseases, respiratory illnesses, cancer risks, and reduced quality of life. It also examines the financial burden on individuals, families, and healthcare systems.
