Workshop Shines Spotlight on Gazi Early Childhood Development Assessment Tool for Holistic Child Development

The Gazi Early Childhood Development Assessment Tool, a significant method employed for evaluating the cognitive, psychomotor, social-emotional, and language development of children aged 0-72 months in preschool education, was recently spotlighted at a workshop organized by Near East University's Atatürk Faculty of Education. The workshop, spearheaded by Assist. Prof. Dr. Şebnem Güldal Kan and Specialist Şermin Kuset, drew participation from students in the preschool teaching department.

During the workshop, faculty members from the Near East University Preschool Education Department, including Assist. Prof. Dr. Dervişe Toklu and Lecturer Hulin Sıddık, actively contributed to training future educators on utilizing the Gazi Early Childhood Development Assessment Tool. This developmental assessment tool is designed to comprehensively evaluate children's development within the 0-72 month age range, aiding in structuring educational experiences and identifying developmental delays at an early stage.

The workshop underscored the user-friendly nature of the Gazi Early Childhood Development Assessment Tool, emphasizing its simplicity compared to conventional applications. This method, rooted in observing children in a play environment, employs criteria capable of assessing all developmental domains in detail. The tool comprises four subtests: psychomotor (73 items), cognitive (60 items), language development (60 items), and social-emotional development (56 items), totaling 249 items. Notably, self-care skills are encompassed within the social-emotional development subtest. The workshop, marked by robust participation, culminated in the issuance of certificates to attendees.

This initiative aligns with the broader objectives of sustainable development, emphasizing the importance of holistic child development in fostering resilient and thriving communities. The Gazi Early Childhood Development Assessment Tool contributes to these goals by providing educators with a valuable resource to nurture the well-rounded growth of children, ensuring they reach their full potential.
