Pedestrian Priority

Near East University's commitment to prioritizing pedestrians reflects its dedication to upholding pedestrian rights and ensuring their safety within the context of the education and community services it offers in Northern Cyprus. Guided by its clear purpose, vision, and mission.

Purpose

In line with Near East University's values, the university is committed to prioritizing the well-being and safety of pedestrians and fostering a culture of respect for pedestrian rights.

Vision

Near East University envisions a future where pedestrians are guaranteed safety and access on the university campus, and this vision extends to promoting a pedestrian-friendly culture in the wider community.

Mission

The university's mission is to create a secure and welcoming pedestrian environment. It achieves this through the following principles:

  • Respect for Pedestrian Rights: Near East University places great importance on preserving the safety and rights of pedestrians. Crosswalks, sidewalks, and pedestrian pathways are constructed to be safe and accessible for students and staff.
  • Pedestrian-Friendly Infrastructure: The university campus is designed to allow pedestrians to move and access facilities comfortably. Infrastructure elements such as pedestrian pathways, green spaces, and rest areas prioritize the comfort and safety of pedestrians.
  • Traffic Regulations: Near East University takes measures to regulate on-campus traffic and enforce speed limits. This helps enhance pedestrian safety.
  • Education and Awareness: The university provides education and raises awareness about pedestrian safety among students and staff. Pedestrians are educated on adhering to traffic rules and walking safely.

This commitment reflects the culture of Northern Cyprus, respecting pedestrians and prioritizing them, which is reflected on the university campus. Additionally, our pedestrian priority principles play a significant role in promoting respect for pedestrian rights and safe walking habits in the broader community.

NEU Traffic Rules and Safety

As part of Near East University’s commitment to a sustainable and safe campus, we have established specific traffic regulations designed to ensure the safety and comfort of our students, staff, and visitors. NEU personnel monitor these regulations 24/7, and penalties are enforced as necessary.

Traffic Flow and Priority: Traffic on the NEU campus flows in the left lane. Therefore, drivers are expected to use the left lane and observe right-of-way rules to allow other drivers to proceed smoothly.

Pedestrian and Bicycle-Priority Campus: Pedestrians and cyclists are given priority at designated crosswalks and bike paths. Speed limits are enforced on campus to ensure a safe environment for both pedestrians and cyclists.

Speed Limit: The maximum speed limit within the campus is 40 km/h. Adhering to this limit plays a crucial role in preventing accidents and maintaining overall safety.

Horns and Loud Noises: Honking and playing loud music are prohibited on campus. Following this rule helps maintain a peaceful environment

Routes and Parking Areas: Using designated routes and parking areas on campus supports safe driving. Vehicles are parked in designated parking areas on campus in accordance with the relevant rules.

Monitoring and Security: Traffic monitoring and security on campus is carried out by NEU security duties. Implementing security measures helps ensure the smooth flow of campus transportation and contributes to a more peaceful and safe working environment for everyone.

NEU traffic rules are displayed at the university's main entrances.
