Net-Zero Commitment

Net-Zero Commitment

Near East University commits to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

This commitment covers Scope 1 (direct emissions) and Scope 2 (indirect energy-related emissions), in line with the GHG Protocol.

The University implements this commitment through:

  • Energy efficiency measures
  • Renewable energy adoption
  • Sustainable campus operations

Baseline Year:
The University updated its baseline year to 2025 following the implementation of a more comprehensive emissions tracking system aligned with the GHG Protocol.

Monitoring and Reporting:
Progress towards the net-zero target is monitored and reported annually as part of the institutional sustainability and quality assurance framework.

Renewable Energy Share

Approximately 23% of total campus energy consumption is generated from renewable energy sources.

Carbon Reduction Targets

Near East University has defined time-bound carbon reduction targets to support its net-zero commitment:

  • 20% reduction by 2030
  • 50% reduction by 2040
  • Net-zero emissions by 2050

Emissions data are monitored, reviewed, and reported annually as part of the University’s sustainability and quality assurance processes.

Carbon Emissions Monitoring and Reporting

Near East University monitors and reports its greenhouse gas emissions in alignment with internationally recognised frameworks, including the GHG Protocol.

The University publicly reports:

  • Scope 1 emissions (direct emissions)
  • Scope 2 emissions (indirect energy emissions)
  • Scope 3 emissions (value chain emissions)

Baseline Year: 2025
Scope 1 & 2 Emissions: 7,200 tCO2e
Scope 3 Emissions: 14,200 tCO2e

Emissions data are monitored and updated annually as part of the University’s sustainability strategy.
