Near East University provides comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services to its students through the Sexual Health Service Unit. This unit offers education, counselling, and awareness programs on topics including safe sexual practices, prevention and management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), pregnancy prevention methods, and protection against sexual harassment and abuse. The unit works in collaboration with clinical services to support diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of sexual and reproductive health issues as needed. Services are delivered by a multidisciplinary team of experts specializing in obstetrics and women's health nursing, public health nursing, gynaecology, clinical psychology, and social services. To enhance outreach and accessibility, a peer education group actively participates in awareness campaigns and peer support initiatives. All students of Near East University have access to these services, which aim to promote informed decision-making and well-being regarding sexual and reproductive health. All services provided by the Sexual Health Service Unit are free of charge for students. Purpose-Objectives of Unit: Near East University 'Sexual Health Service Unit' is structured to provide education and consultancy services to university students in the field of sexual health. Young people need accurate, adequate and accessible sexual health education to protect, develop and maintain their sexual health. In this regard, increasing access to qualified sexual health education and consultancy services that respect the reproductive rights of young people is among the primary goals of the unit. In addition, we work in integration with clinical services on needed issues and support the diagnosis and treatment of sexual problems. Service Framework: Education and Consultancy Group: Clinical Service Group; Near East University's Sexual Health Service Unit complements its free and confidential counselling services with campus-based educational activities that promote sexual and reproductive health awareness among young people. Through bilingual information campaigns, interactive stands, and peer-led education, the unit encourages informed decision-making, preventive health practices, and access to professional sexual health support. Information Series 4: Sexually Transmitted Infections and Contraceptive Methods – 2025 The bilingual awareness event was conducted in Turkish and English under the supervision of academic staff, with active participation from the unit's peer education group. Through interactive discussions and educational materials, students received information about contraceptive methods, the symptoms and transmission routes of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and strategies for preventing infection and unintended pregnancy. Free educational brochures and condoms were distributed to support preventive sexual health practices and encourage informed choices. The event directly reached approximately 100 students, providing opportunities for participants to ask questions and engage with peer educators in an accessible campus setting. The programme also introduced students to the free and confidential counselling services offered by the Sexual Health Service Unit, providing guidance on accessing professional support when needed. Through this initiative, Near East University promoted sexual health literacy, preventive awareness, and access to reliable reproductive health information among its student community. Sexual Health Fair for Youth: Peer-Led Education and Awareness – 2026 The fair adopted an interactive, peer-led educational approach, with nursing students actively delivering information and engaging with participants through themed educational stands. The activities addressed six key areas of sexual and reproductive health: safe sexual practices and contraceptive methods; healthy relationships and consent; sexually transmitted infections and prevention; youth-friendly sexual health services; sexual myths and sexual rights; and digital sexuality, privacy, and online safety. Students used educational materials, demonstrations, and interactive discussions to explain preventive measures, correct common misconceptions, and encourage responsible decision-making. Particular attention was given to the prevention of STIs, including HIV and HPV, the importance of consent and respectful relationships, and the protection of personal privacy in digital environments. The fair also introduced participants to available sexual health information and counselling resources, helping young people identify appropriate sources of professional support. By involving nursing students as peer educators, the initiative encouraged student participation in community health education while making scientific information more accessible to young people. The 2026 Sexual Health Fair built upon the university's established peer education and outreach activities, further demonstrating its continuing efforts to promote sexual and reproductive health awareness, preventive education, and access to reliable health information.
