Near East University is committed to upholding the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) across all areas of institutional operation. This policy aims to foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students, academic and administrative staff, and stakeholders, regardless of their characteristics or background.

The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee at Near East University is formally appointed by the university administration. The committee is responsible for advising on and implementing policies, programmes, and training related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and human rights across the institution.

Scope and Application
This policy applies to all members of the university community, including students, faculty, administrative staff, external partners, and visitors. It aligns with the university’s broader sustainability and human rights policies and supports its commitment to social justice and equal opportunity.

Protected Characteristics
The university explicitly prohibits discrimination, harassment, or victimization based on the following protected characteristics:

  • Age
  • Gender or gender reassignment
  • Disability
  • Race
  • Religion or belief
  • Sexual orientation
  • Marriage and civil partnership
  • Pregnancy and maternity
  • Refugee and asylum seeker status

Institutional Commitment
Near East University ensures that its practices, procedures, and educational and employment policies reflect its dedication to EDI. The university regularly reviews its policies on anti-discrimination, gender equality, accessibility, and social inclusion to uphold compliance and progressive standards.

Monitoring and Implementation
The university’s senior leadership team and relevant administrative units oversee the implementation of this policy. Regular training, data monitoring, and stakeholder engagement activities are conducted to assess and strengthen EDI practices. Feedback mechanisms are in place to address concerns related to equity or discrimination.
