The Near East University is committed to shaping the next generation, ensuring they are not only aware of the worldwide challenges we face but also capable of actively participating in solutions. Our educational methodology, termed Education for Sustainability, is designed to cultivate transformative learning experiences, instill sustainable values and perspectives, enhance systems and complexity thinking, motivate students to imagine a more promising future, and empower them as catalysts for change. In line with our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we at the Near East University have embraced the duty to integrate the SDGs' principles into our curriculum. We are proud to provide a variety of programs and courses that directly support the SDGs, equipping our students with the essential knowledge and skills to foster sustainable development, often within their specific areas of study. Near East University is committed to providing all students with meaningful education on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2022 and beyond. This commitment aligns with our educational principles and mission. At Near East University, we pledge to encourage all our students to understand sustainability issues, discover ways to contribute to these goals, and comprehend global challenges within the framework of SDGs. This commitment is manifested in the following ways: Program and Course Content: The fundamental principles and applicability of the SDGs are integrated across various aspects of university programs. All students are exposed to essential SDGs-related topics through a variety of courses. Campus Activities and Projects: We offer students opportunities to engage in projects and activities aligned with SDGs. These projects help students bridge theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Research and Publications: Research conducted at our university aims to contribute to the resolution of issues related to SDGs. Our academic staff actively conducts research and publications focusing on these areas. Policies and Commitments: Our university adopts policies related to sustainability and documents its commitments. As part of these policies, we consider SDGs as a central theme. At Near East University, we not only provide education on sustainability and SDGs but also aspire to inspire our students to internalize these values. This commitment reflects our belief in our mission to create a more sustainable, conscious, and responsible world in the future. Starting from the 2024–2025 Academic Year, the elective course “Sustainability Development and Education (GCC231)” has been offered across all programs at Near East University. This course aims to integrate sustainable development principles into education, enabling students from diverse disciplines to understand sustainability from environmental, social, and economic perspectives and to contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
